Scenario 2: Personalize Care

In the video you just watched, patients surveyed also expressed the desire for their care teams to be compassionate about them and their care.

As one patient, age 30, who has been trying to conceive for six and a half years, told us in the Real Talk survey:

“Individuality. Treat me personally. Not like I’m just some number. While it’s just another baby to the clinic, it is my whole entire life.”

Using the 4 “E”s Protocol, how can we reframe how we see the “feeling like a number” patient? Of course, her case is important to you. Realize that to her this visit and treatment is the most important thing in her/his life right now. Acknowledge and honor that passion.

Think: Even if I don’t have a lot of time, I will ask my staff/colleagues to minimize interruptions. I will show the patient that they have my complete attention.
